Amazing Indian food and great service located in the heart of Japantown! I was craving Indian cuisine after my trip to India, and this really hit the spot. If you're looking for good homestyle Indian cooking, come here versus the expensive modern fusion next door. I came here with a group of 3 and here are the things we liked: * chicken momos: 4/5 yummy sauce and filling * butter garlic nann: 3/5 super huge nan great portions, garlic was tasty but the bread can turn hard pretty fast - eat it while fresh and hot! * Salmon curry: 5/5 our group favorite, served in a tomato curry sauce and salmon portions were generous * chicken biriyani: 4/5 generous chunks of meat, flavorful rice and seasoning I will definitely be back! Loved the portions, flavor, and quiet ambience in this local spot.

Went to Royal Indian for lunch today. Their lunch special may be best deal in town. There are only two to choose from: chicken or veg. The chicken comes with chicken two ways: tika masala and tandoori chicken thigh. In addition a bowl of rice, cup of lentils, and hunk of naan. You can't go wrong for under $16 bucks. Cloth tablecloth and napkins are a nice touch as well.

Ordered takeaway again - this time: Butter chicken - great flavor of curry, be mindful this is creamy. The chicken are smaller tandoori pieces, that are fatty, so overall it's a heavy dish and delicious. Saag Paneer - tried for first time here. One thing to keep in mind.. if you're a saag paneer fiend, just know this is a bit different than the average. Actually less greasy and much more greens-forward in flavor, with the blend of greens less cooked down into an aromatic, green, mush and more chunky still. If you've ever had the Persian stew "ghorme sabzi" it's more akin to that. Went for garlic naan this time and was plain, but fine. I think better than the paneer naan as there was more flavor to hang onto. Samosas - enjoyed these. Large chunks of potatoes and smaller accents of peas. On the spicy end. The flour shell is on the thicker side - like a pot pie.

Hungry and saw the lunch sign special: chicken masala, $14.99. That really caught my eye. Ordered to go. They gave me a very heavy brown bag. When I opened it, here was so many things inside. Half a spongy naan, so soft. 3 small containers. Lentil soup (to salty). Chicken marsala was delicious with lots of chunks of chicken. Basmati rice. The last surprise was a foil wrapped tandoori chicken. At first I saw the burnt chicken thigh, but I ate around burnt part and it was so tender. Great taste. This was so worth it. I ate 1/4 and I was full.

Did a walk in, and was pleasantly surprised. Quiet seating, private and cosy ambiance. Ordered boti lamb and tandoori prawns.. and chicken masala, Rohan Josh. Very nice food couldn't find any faults. Helpful staff, clean, and easy to enjoy.

Always walked by this place on my way to and from Japantown, and finally tried it for the first time. It was empty around 5:30p - 7:00p on a Sunday. Would come back to try other things. Chicken korma - 4.5/5, good portion of curry and chicken. I really love the cashew taste, I feel like it adds a lot to the flavor and creaminess! Goat/lamb curry - 3/5, if I remember correctly it was tomato based or something similar, which wasn't bad. We wanted to order some other goat or lamb dish, but got the wrong one. After receiving and reading about the dish on the menu, we knew it wasn't something we would pick so it just wasn't for us. Chicken momo - 3/5, seemed a bit bland even with sauce. Good if you want something lighter on taste. Garlic naan - 4/5, a large piece of naan cut in half. Good amount of garlic and flavor.

This place has great butter chicken! Although the portions seem small when they come out, they are very rich and filling - so don't be fooled! The garlic naan is also delicious, & if you eat there you will get the free appetizer dish, and I love the cilantro & sweeter sauce that comes with it. Service is great - fast & friendly! Plenty of tables inside, this can be a nice weekday date night out!

Great in every respect. Great food with lots of options. Service was friendly and attentive. Prices were fair. Everything was clean and fresh. Great place to stop when going to the Fillmore!

I've yet to have any Indian cuisine in SF. This shall be my first! Muahahah! And it's after a workout so I am hun-gry. On a Thursday night at 7:30pm, there was a small table of people. The atmosphere was pleasant, with some nice traditional music and colorful wall inlets that brightened the mood for sure. The vegetable pakora was the most fresh I've seen.. maybe ever in the states? They were hot, aromatic, and the chic-pea flower looked crisp and fresh, not just mushy and fluffy. I enjoyed the chicken korma. What I liked most was it wasn't overly buttery-- sometimes chefs add a lot for "flavor" but it's an easy way out. I don't disagree, but it's nice to get something a little different tho I know people who seek out that buttery flavor specifically. The naan portion was large, along with the pakora. At first I thought the chicken portion was a little small, but in the end I was satisfied. I'm always a fan of Himalayan and Nepali spots because the politeness and hospitality is always A1. And it didn't disappoint this time. This is a cozy spot to get satisfying Indian cuisine and can be a solo spot, and a casual place after work or for lunch with friends. Naan, pakora, chicken korma, and rice was $34.11 which is quite good considering I'll have a second meal with leftovers :)
